Peer Review Process

Publication of articles in the Journal of Physical Education and Sports Activities (JPESA) depends solely on scientific validity, originality, and coherence as evaluated by our editorial board and expert peer reviewers. Reviewers assess whether the manuscript is comprehensible, methodologically sound, and represents a valuable contribution to the fields of physical education and sports science. JPESA deeply acknowledges the time, effort, and constructive feedback provided by its reviewers.

Initial Manuscript Evaluation All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial evaluation by the Managing Editor/Editorial Board, which typically takes a maximum of 2 weeks. Manuscripts that lack sufficient originality, exhibit serious scientific or methodological flaws, or fall outside the focus and scope of JPESA will be rejected at this stage (desk rejection). Manuscripts meeting the journal's baseline criteria are forwarded to independent expert reviewers for formal evaluation. The review process generally takes up to 6 weeks, bringing the average timeline from initial submission to final publication decision to approximately 8 weeks.

Type of Peer Review JPESA strictly employs a Double-Blind Peer Review process (also referred to as double-anonymous peer review). Under this system, both the authors' and reviewers' identities are kept strictly confidential throughout the evaluation process to ensure maximum objectivity and eliminate bias. Manuscripts are typically evaluated by at least two independent expert reviewers.

Reviewer Criteria Reviewers are asked to evaluate whether the manuscript:

  • Demonstrates originality by clearly identifying research gaps and objectives.

  • Is methodologically sound, rigorous, and clearly explained.

  • Adheres to appropriate ethical guidelines and research integrity.

  • Presents results and findings clearly that fully support the stated conclusions.

  • Appropriately cites and references previous relevant literature.

Note: Reviewers are not expected or required to proofread or copyedit manuscripts. Technical language editing is not part of the peer-review evaluation.

Editorial Decision Categories Based on the detailed reports provided by the reviewers, the Editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept Submission: The manuscript is accepted in its current form with no further modifications required.

  • Accept with Revisions (Minor/Major): The manuscript will be accepted on the condition that minor or major modifications are made. Revisions will be reviewed by the Editor (or sent back to reviewers) to ensure necessary updates are satisfactorily completed prior to publication.

  • Resubmit for Review: The manuscript requires substantial restructuring or major scientific revisions. It will undergo a second round of formal peer review after resubmission.

  • Reject: The manuscript will not be published in JPESA, and authors will not have the opportunity to resubmit the same manuscript.

Editorial Correspondence All correspondence regarding submitted manuscripts should be directed to the Managing Editor of JPESA. Editorial communications will be sent exclusively to the corresponding author, who is responsible for sharing updates with co-authors. Manuscripts accepted for publication may require further communication to complete the copyediting and layout phases.
